Carlo De Benedetti (* 14. November 1934 in Turin , Italy , as Carlo De Benedetti ) is an Italian engineer , entrepreneur and publisher .

Life

De Benedetti grew up in Turin in a wealthy Jewish family. His brother is the Italian Senator Franco Debenedetti . During the Second World War , his family fled to Switzerland in 1943 . After the Second World War, De Benedetti studied electrical engineering at the Politecnico di Torino in Turin . After graduating, he worked in his father's company, Compagnia Italiana Tubi Metallici Flessibili . In 1972 the Gilardini company was taken over and De Benedetti became president. He held this position until 1976. For a short time, De Benedetti was also CEO of the Italian car company Fiat from May 4 to August 25, 1976 . In November 1976 De Benedetti took over the Italian company CIR Group , which gave him control of the national newspaper La Repubblica and the magazine L'Espresso , among others . Furthermore, in 1978 De Benedetti became CEO of the Italian company Olivetti , whose president he became in 1983 and which he led until his professional retirement in 1996. He has Italian and since July 8, 2009 also Swiss citizenship and has been married to Paola Ferrari since April 10, 1996 and has two children with her.

Spelling of the name

Carlo De Benedetti, like his brother, the politician Franco Debenedetti ( PDS and DS ), was born with the family name Debenedetti and was entered in the municipal register under this name. Their father Rodolfo had also previously been registered under the family name Debenedetti , although several of his brothers spelled the family name De Benedetti due to a spelling mistake in the community . Carlo later changed it to De Benedetti .
