Lists on the subject

The kinikini is a club of the inhabitants of the Fiji Islands in the form of a leaf or oar club. It served as a combat and professional weapon for chiefs and priests.

description

The kinikini is made of wood. The shaft is made slightly oval. The head is flat and similar to a shark fin. The edges are flattened and sharp. The entire face of the striking head is decorated with traditional patterns. The patterns are laid out with white coral paste to make them stand out against the dark underground. The possession and use of the Kinikini were reserved exclusively for priests and chiefs. It was used not only as a striking weapon, but also as a shield against arrows. There are different versions of the Kinikini that differ in shape and decoration.
