The Kinsol Railway Bridge (officially Kinsol Trestle or Koksilah River Trestle ) is a wooden trestle bridge in the Canadian province of British Columbia . The bridge has been a cultural monument since 2009 and was originally built for rail traffic on the Canadian Northern Pacific Railway (CNoPR), a subsidiary of the Canadian Northern Railway (CNoR). The bridge on Vancouver Island spans the Koksilah River at Shawnigan Lake in the Cowichan Valley Regional District .
The construction of the bridge began in 1911. In the years 1914–1916, however, construction was suspended because of the First World War . The bridge was officially completed in 1920. After rail traffic over the bridge had ceased in 1979, after almost 60 years of use, and no more maintenance had been carried out from 1984, it fell into disrepair. After its reconstruction, it was reopened on July 27, 2011. Today it is part of the Cowichan Valley Trail , a section of the Trans Canada Trail .
