Church theft
Church theft or church robbery (also sacrilegium in older dictionaries ) is the theft of objects from a church or the theft of consecrated objects that are used for worship ( Res sacrae ). According to German ( § 243 No. 4 StGB ) and Austrian law ( § 128 Paragraph 1 No. 2 StGB ), this form of theft is punished as a "particularly serious case" with up to ten years imprisonment. The potential harm to religious feelings through the desecration of sacred objects is rated as serious here . In the Middle Ages , the death penalty was imposed.
