Kyrgyz Academy of Sciences

The Kyrgyz Academy of Sciences is a research institute in the Central Asian state of Kyrgyzstan .

history

The Kyrgyz Academy of Sciences has its origins in 1924 when the academic center of the Kyrgyz Autonomous Oblast was established. In 1943 an offshoot of the USSR Academy of Sciences was founded in Kyrgyzstan, and in 1954 the institution was significantly redesigned. After the collapse of the Soviet Union and the independence of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan in 1991, the Kyrgyz branch of the Soviet Academy of Sciences was transformed into a national institution, today's Kyrgyz Academy of Sciences, by government decree in 1993.

The Kyrgyz Academy of Sciences is active in numerous areas of research. The focus is on geology and energy , medicine , regional history, chemistry , agriculture and social sciences .

  • At the end of the 1950s, the Kyrgyz Academy of Sciences was involved in the creation of the first Kyrgyz-Russian dictionary
  • In the 1960s, a map of the seismically active zones in Kyrgyzstan was created
  • In the 1970s, scientists from the Kyrgyz Academy bred a new breed of sheep
  • the academy has been hosting a conference of Kyrgyz scientists since the 1990s
  • Finds at the bottom of Lake Issyk-Kul prove the existence of ancient and medieval cultures in the region
  • an institute under the umbrella of the academy deals with issues of water supply, which are of immense importance in Kyrgyzstan and throughout Central Asia
