The Kirk O 'The Muir is a ruined church near the Scottish town of Murthly in the Council Area Perth and Kinross . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

The Kirk O 'The Muir goes back to the first secession of the Scottish national church. It was built for the congregation of James Fishers , son-in-law of the founder of the United Secession Church , Ebenezer Erskine . The United Secession Church later merged into the United Presbyterian Church of Scotland , which used the church.

The church building, which is now only in ruins, was included in the register of endangered listed buildings in Scotland in 2008. The building is exposed to nature and largely overgrown.

description

The Kirk O 'The Muir is isolated around 1.5 km southeast of Murthly. The associated rectory is nearby. It is a simple, elongated building. Its facades are plastered with Harl , with natural stone details set off. The south-facing main facade has elongated lattice windows and doors. The north facade, however, is unadorned. An inscription shows the year of construction in 1744 and a revision in 1830. The building once had a roof turret with an open bell.
