The Liegnitzer bomb is a gingerbread specialty from Liegnitz in Lower Silesia. These are small round cakes made of brown gingerbread dough with a fruit and marzipan filling. For example, the filling can contain candied cherries , orange peel , raisins and chopped almonds .

"Liegnitzer bomb" is not a protected indication of origin. Before 1945 these pastries were actually mainly produced in Liegnitz and the surrounding area and exported from there worldwide, but with the expulsion of the German population this gingerbread tradition came to a standstill in the Polish part of Lower Silesia. It is still widespread in Upper Lusatia . The products can be ordered via mail order. Recipes for Liegnitz bombs can also be found in more recent German baking books.
