Kitron Naxou

Kitro from Naxos ( Greek Κίτρο Νάξου Kitro Naxou ) is a Greek liqueur .

It is considered a liqueur with a legally protected origin on the Cycladic island of Naxos , where it is exclusively produced. The “Vallindra” distillery in Chalkio is considered to be the first producer. Kitro is made from the leaves of the cedar tree . Since only about 2000 of these are growing on the island, the production volume is limited and there is no regular national distribution.

Kitro comes in three different variations. Green Kitro has a very sweet taste and contains 30% alcohol , a little less than the slightly stronger clear lemon. The yellow kitro is the strongest with the highest alcohol content and the lowest amount of sugar. The difference is due to the addition of different colorings that have no effect on the taste.
