The Kiwibank Limited, based in Wellington , is the sixth largest branch and commercial bank in New Zealand . It is managed by the Kiwi Group Holdings Limited (67.4%) and the Kiwi Capital Management Limited (32.6%) as an independent subsidiary of the New Zealand Post and is state-owned as a state-owned enterprise .

The Kiwibank stated in early 2011, more than 650,000 customers in more than 300 stores to operate and have the advantage of longer opening times over the other banks. In May 2009, however, their market share was only 3.2%.

history

On November 29, 2001, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand announced that by registering New Zealand Post Financial Services Limited, it had given the company permission to operate as a bank on a trial basis. At the same time it was announced that this bank would operate as Kiwibank as the 17th bank in the market. On February 4, 2002, the Reserve Bank of Kiwibank Limited finally granted permission to operate as a bank.

The concept of the bank was originally based on the private customer business, which was carried out via the existing post offices of the New Zealand Post . Business with business customers was added later.

When St George Bank New Zealand Ltd , which appeared in the market with the Superbank brand , announced its discontinuation of its activities on August 4, 2006 , Kiwibank offered Superbank customers to take over their accounts. However , the process had little impact on Kiwibank's market share . The market share increased slightly during this period from 1.1% to 1.4% in May 2007.
