Clan (rock band)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Klan is a Polish jazz rock band . It was founded in Warsaw in 1969 and dissolved again in mid-1971. During this time only one EP and one LP were created . Nevertheless, the band played a decisive role in the transition from the Polish big beat to progressive rock and is still considered by many Poles to be one of the most important bands in Polish rock history.

The original line-up included Marek Ałaszewski (guitar and vocals), Roman Pawelski (bass), Andrzej Poniatowski (drums) and Maciej Głuszkiewicz (keyboards). They made their debut at the Warsaw Medyk Club and composed the music for the ballet Mrowisko (anthill), which premiered in 1971. The 13 tracks released on the album of the same name are strongly influenced by western music, for example by Jethro Tull , Vanilla Fudge and Carlos Santana . The lyrics tell of life in the anonymous, faceless city, in which the individual feels like an ant. The piece was performed at the song festival in Opole in 1970. The band lacked the musical equipment for further musical plans, so they decided to break up quickly.

The singer Ałaszewski tried a comeback under the old name in 1991 with a completely different line-up. A year later this resulted in the record Po co mi ten raj .
