from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Klapa Sinj is an a cappella male singing group from the Croatian town of Sinj , founded in 1982.

Klapa Sinj consists of eleven members. Only a few years ago new young singers joined the group, continuing the tradition of klapa . The main characteristic of Klapa singing is to perform a piece without instruments and in four voices.

Klapa Sinj has released six CDs with mainly traditional melodies typical of Dalmatia , but also written new texts and adapted them for a cappella singing. The group leader is Mojimir Čačija, who sings in Klapa Sinj himself.

Themes and inspirations of her songs are the mountains, the river Cetina , the knight play Sinjska alka , the Madonna of Sinj ( Gospa Sinjska ) and others.

Klapa Sinj is very popular in and outside of Croatia. Klapa Sinj visited many European countries such as Italy, Germany, Hungary, Slovenia, Spain, France, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, but also other continents such as South Africa and North America.

Klapa Sinj has received numerous awards (selection):

  • 17 awards at the festival in Omiš (Croatia)
  • first prize at the international festival in Verona 1997
  • second place at the festival in Prague 1998
  • first place in the international a cappella competition in Italy (Bozen / Bolzano 2002), in which 65 other groups took part
