Companies

Company founder: Gustav Klauke

Gustav Klauke founded the company in 1879, from which the name is derived. In the first 80 years of the company's history, pliers were mainly produced for the watchmaking trade, for example. In the 1960s, a new field of activity was opened up - electrical connection technology. At the beginning, Klauke produced cable lugs and hand-mechanical pressing tools. In the 1970s the company had around 40 men. In order to create space for the further development and growth of the company, in 1980 the administration, sales and part of the production moved to a newly created industrial area in Remscheid. From there, expansion was driven forward in 1987 with the first foreign subsidiary in the USA. In the following years seven further subsidiaries were founded in Europe and Asia. In 1990 Gustav Klauke GmbH continued to grow due to the acquisition of the HAW company in Bernsdorf, Saxony. Part of the production is still carried out here. But Klauke not only grew worldwide with subsidiaries and production facilities, the product range also expanded. In 1994, for example, the first battery-powered hydraulic pressing tool was produced, which the company also used in the field of sanitary and heating installation.

In 1996 Textron took over the family company that had been run by the owner and integrated it into the Greenlee Division. This also expanded its global presence. The number of employees had risen to 200 at this point. In 2002 the world's first rod-shaped battery-powered hydraulic tool, the Klauke mini, was launched on the market. In 2007 a new logistics center was built at the Remscheid site. In 2008, the company Utilux Europe, a manufacturer of connecting material and customized stamped parts, was acquired. Today it operates as a subsidiary Klauke Slovakia based in Dolný Kubín . Cable and wire harnesses, connecting materials and customer-specific stamped parts are currently produced at this location. In July 2018, when Klauke was sold to the Emerson Electric Company, there was a change in group affiliation. From now on, Klauke is part of the Emerson "Professional Tools" division and is no longer affiliated with Textron.

Currently more than 1250 employees develop, produce and sell the Klauke range at twelve locations in Europe and Asia / Pacific as well as through the Greenlee organization in North and South America.
