Klausmeister

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The cloister masters looked after and operated clauses at the outflows of lakes and rivers together with their servants (claus guards or guards) . The dammed water could be drained by means of sluice gates, so that the river water level swelled and ships or wood could thus overcome shallow places more easily.
