Little Sisters of the Gospel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Little Sisters of the Gospel ( French Petites Soeurs de l'Evangile ) are a Catholic religious order that was founded on December 1, 1963 by René Voillaume .

Within the spiritual family of Charles de Foucauld they live a contemplative and missionary religious life.

Spiritual life

The Little Sisters of the Gospel communities are called to be primarily devoted to evangelizing the poor, the outcast, and the marginalized.

However, they do not preach the gospel through words alone, but try to testify to it with their whole life in sharing the living and working conditions of people. The sisters do a simple job and live in rented apartments. Through this lifestyle they are close to the poor and marginalized people and stand up for their needs through their social and pastoral commitment.

The members live together in small communities of three or four sisters each, most of whom come from different countries.

distribution

Little sisters of the gospel live in Europe, Africa, North and Latin America. For example, they share the life of Roma in France , live on the outskirts of big cities in multicultural neighborhoods, work with indigenous people in Ecuador , immigrants in Italy , prisoners in the United States , pygmies in Cameroon and the rural population in El Salvador . In Madagascar and Haiti , they work alongside their neighbors in health and education projects.

In Germany there is currently no community, but some German Little Sisters belong to the order.
