The clinic was founded in 1892 by Marie Sollberger , a pioneer of the Swiss Blue Cross , on her parents' property. Today the clinic is listed on the hospital lists of the Canton of Bern and the Canton of Lucerne for the treatment of disorders.

Initially, the Wysshölzli sanatorium offered women a place to treat addiction problems. Until 1972, the focus was primarily on occupation in the house and garden as well as sewing. From this point onwards, therapies were also offered, which are gradually being expanded. In addition to addiction disorders, the clinic began specializing in the treatment of eating disorders from 2000.

The legal form of the clinic is a foundation.
