Klippwerk

The clip factory is a machine for stamping of coins .
After one of the 7th century BC From the 15th century BC to the 15th century AD, hammer- stamped coins could be minted much more accurately by introducing the clip mechanism at the end of the 15th century . The Klippwerk was a simple embossing machine, the upper stamp of which was guided in a holder. This made it possible to avoid punch shifts and twisting of the punch better. However, the actual embossing was still done with a hammer blow. With a "stirrup" attached to a lever, the upper punch was moved back up after the stamping stroke so that the coin could be removed.
At the end of the 15th century, the Klippwerk minted the first large silver coins in the size of a thaler ( guilder ; mint Hall in Tirol ). Smaller coins were still minted with this facility in the 19th century.
