The Bysławek Monastery (German: Bislaw) is a branch of the Sisters of Mercy of Saint Vincent de Paul in Bysławek ( Gmina Lubiewo ) in the Polish Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship . A Benedictine monastery was founded here in 1603, which was taken over by the Franciscan reformates in 1857 . It has been used by Vinzenzerinnen since 1881.

history

In 1602 the Benedictine Zofia Żalińska came with eleven sisters from Kulm (Chełmno) to their father's estate in Bislaw and lived there for a while to avoid an epidemic in their hometown. After a while they went back to Kulm. However, the residents of Bislaw asked them to come back and so the sisters founded a new monastery here in 1603. This was confirmed by Pope Clement VIII in 1605. They built a church and monastery buildings.

In 1822 ten sisters came from the monastery in Kulm, which had been closed by the Prussian authorities. In 1836 the monastery in Bislaw was also dissolved. Four sisters stayed here.

After the last one left the place in 1852, the local authorities handed over the dilapidated facility to the Franciscan Reformates. They repaired the building and stayed there until 1875. After that, the site stood empty for a few years.

In 1881 the Sisters of Charity were brought to Saint Vincent by Paul. These were also active in social welfare. In 1939 the site was confiscated by the German occupation authorities.

Since 1945 the monastery has been used again by the Sisters of Charity.
