Gradac Monastery

The Gradac Monastery is a Serb Orthodox convent south Kraljevo in Serbia. It is one of the structures of the Raška School and is similar to the Studenica Monastery . Thanks to the use of Gothic elements, it is, along with the Visoki Dečani monastery, the most strongly western-style religious building in Serbia .

history

Gradac is a foundation of Queen Hélène d'Anjou (1237-1314), wife of Stefan Uroš I. The monastery was built around 1275 and serves, among other things, as the burial place of Queen Hélène.

Badly damaged by the Turks after 1389, only fragments of the frescoes have survived. The building is characterized by Gothic elements of the windows and portals.
