Karlstadt Monastery

The Karlstadt Monastery is a former Capuchin monastery in Karlstadt in Bavaria in the Diocese of Würzburg .

history

The monastery, consecrated to Mary of the Angels, was founded in 1647 by citizens of Karlstadt; it was dissolved in 1804 in the course of secularization . From 1804 to 1808 the monastery served as a salt store. In 1808 it was re-established. In 1966 the convent moved to the parish center of the city parish “Zur hl. Family". The convention was closed in 1976.

The old monastery "zum Helfenstein" was deliberately burned down in 1974 for filming an episode of the television series Freiwillige Feuerwehr . Today the town hall is located on the old monastery grounds.
