Mor Loozor Monastery

The Mor Loozor (Saint Lazarus ) Monastery is an abandoned and partly ruinous Syrian monastery in Turkey . It is located on a hill about 1 km from the village of Mercimekli (formerly Habsnas or Habsus) near the city of Midyat in the province of Mardin .

It is believed that the monastery of Simeon de-Zayte (Syrian ܫܡܥܘܢ ܕܙܝ̈ܬܐ, shim'on de-zayte , Turkish Şemun dı-Zayte, German "Simeon of the olives"), a Syrian spiritualist , on the ruins of a Zoroastrian temple was founded or renewed in the 5th or 6th century. The monastery is surrounded by a three meter high stone wall. The abandoned buildings of the monastery are still preserved, but they were badly damaged by treasure hunters in 2008.
