The St. Joseph Monastery is a monastery of the English Misses in Altötting in Bavaria in the Diocese of Passau . It was founded in 1720 by the Munich branch of the English Misses with the approval of Elector Maximilian II Emanuel of Bavaria and the Archbishop of Salzburg. In 1803 the monastery lost its boarding school, in 1808 its assets, and in 1809 its independence. Altötting became a branch of the Institute of the English Misses of Burghausen . In 1823 the novice acceptance was allowed again. The monastery founded a school from which today's Maria-Ward-Realschule and Maria-Ward-Gymnasium emerged. In 2004 the monastery was renamed the Congregatio Jesu.
