Monastery of Saint Fana

The Monastery of Saint Fana is a Coptic Orthodox monastery.

It is named after Saint Fana, a Christian-Egyptian hermit, who is also known under the name of Saint Bane (from 354 to 395).

The monastery is sometimes referred to as Abu Fanah Monastery or the Cross Monastery (due to the decoration with many crosses in the interior).

The monastery was first mentioned in a document in the 12th century. It was later destroyed by Muslims. The monastery was rebuilt in 2002 and has been inhabited by Coptic monks again since 1999.
