Apa Bane

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Abu Fanah , also known as Apa Bane (* after 354 , † after 395 ), called the desert father , was a late antique Christian ascetic of the 4th century. He lived and worked in a monastery in Middle Egypt and was known to have taken care of the sick and poor. He gained fame when he allegedly predicted the death of Emperor Theodosius I in 395 through his prophecy . According to legend, Bane could go without food for 37 days and stood upright in his monk cell for the last 18 years of his life.

During excavations at the Abu Fana monastery , Austrian scientists, led by Professor Helmut Buschhausen, discovered the body of Banes in 1992. This find confirmed by the muscular characteristics that Bane must have actually spent years standing.
