The Knabenmusik Basel 1841 (KMB) - known since 2012 Knaben- und Mädchenmusik Basel 1841 - is the oldest youth music association in the canton of Basel-Stadt .

history

Knabenmusik Basel 1841 (KMB) was founded in 1841. A selection of all instruments is possible for girls. On the occasion of the general assembly in 1990 it was decided that girls could also take part in KMB lessons and make music. The name "Knabenmusik Basel 1841" therefore does not represent a gender-specific restriction. At the extraordinary general assembly on June 20, 2012, which was attended by 35 members, the members of the association did not follow the board's proposal to rename the boys' music "Basler Jugendmusikschule 1841" and voted however, to an amendment to the statutes and spoke out in favor of the gender-neutral name "Knaben- und Mädchenmusik Basel 1841".

Orchestras and ensembles

Knabenmusik Basel 1841 encourages young people to train as wind instruments for harmony and leads ensembles and an orchestra.

Reels

The KMB is also active in the training and further education of young reels . Since March 13, 2010, KMB has also been a member of the Central Switzerland Tambouring and Pfeifer Association (ZTPV). Significant successes were celebrated by participating in various competitions, for example at the Central Switzerland Young Drum and Piper Festival of the ZTPV in Erlinsbach in 2013 with first place in category S2 and parallel S3.
