Knappitsch (noble family)

Knappitsch , also Knapitsch , was the name of an Austrian noble family that originated in Carinthia. The family was raised to the nobility by Empress Maria Theresa of Austria . 1775 followed the award of the nobility title " noble ", after which family members were dubbed as noble von Knappitsch . While some branches of the family remained in the bourgeois class, branches of the noble family still exist today.

The family's possessions exceeded those of some of the imperial principalities of that time.

The family coat of arms is quartered:

1 right half Roman Empire, 2 and 3 blue with a silver lily, 4 in gold three high limestone peaks, in the foreground on a green hill walled castle with gate, pointed turret and two side wings, wall, house and tower covered in red. Crowned helmet: ceiling in front of the Roman Empire, behind blue-white; open flight divided, in front of gold and black, behind of blue and silver.
