Collegiate Foundation of Our Lady (Eichstätt)
The Church of Our Lady of Eichstätt was a collegiate monastery in Eichstätt in Bavaria in the Eichstätt diocese .
history
The collegiate monastery, consecrated to Our Lady, was founded in 1318 by the Eichstätter Canon Markwart von Hageln . A St. Mary's Chapel, which was built around 300 years earlier, served as the church, which was replaced from 1472 by a larger new building, which was completed by 1546. The monastery was dissolved in 1806 in the course of secularization . In 1808 the parish was transferred to the cathedral . The choir of the secular church was demolished in 1818 by the city architect Jordan Maurer, and the other parts of the church were built into houses, some of them in the Munich Palais Leuchtenberg . Small remnants came to light again in 1983 when the houses that were built on the site of the monastery in 1818 were demolished and were integrated into a newly built bank building on the site.
