Colony at home in Potsdam

The Daheim colony was built from 1894 to 1897 for the workers of the nearby Royal Railway Workshops (later Reichsbahnausbesserungswerk / RAW) in Potsdam in the immediate vicinity of the Old Cemetery . It was founded on February 17, 1894, making it the oldest building cooperative in Potsdam. The colony originally included around 210 apartments for around 800 residents. It comprised the houses at home colony 1–37. However, during the Second World War, some of the houses (18/19 and 22/23) were so badly destroyed that they had to be demolished.

After the reunification of Germany, the property question was initially unresolved. In addition, Deutsche Bahn AG, as the successor company to the Royal Railway Workshops, had a right of first refusal, which initially made larger investments impossible. Today the owner of the Daheim colony is the housing cooperative "Daheim" eG .

Today the Daheim colony comprises 181 apartments. The client and investor was the construction and savings association for railway employees , the architect was probably R. Mangelsdorff. The entire residential ensemble is now a listed building .
