Commodity
Kommod is a common word in Bavarian-speaking countries , especially in Austrian , for "comfortable, pleasant". It was borrowed from the French commode in the 18th century , which in turn goes back to the Latin commodus , "appropriate, functional, pleasant" ( con modo , "on, according to manner"). The term used to be used in many German-speaking regions, but is now often considered out of date.
The term chest of drawers, which appeared around the same time, for a comfortable, functional chest with drawers goes back to the synonymous French commode (substantiated feminine to the adjective commode ).
As early as the 17th century, the verb incommodieren , which is no longer in use today , was formed from the French incommoder from the Latin incommodare to incommodus , “inappropriately, uncomfortable”.
