Organs and members

The KKGEO is a non-profit making association according to Art. 60ff ZGB . Members are GIS managers or heads of the GIS or geodata coordination office of the cantons or administrations. Purpose and core tasks

The Conference of the Cantonal Geographic Information Centers (KKGEO) brings together the cantonal geographic information centers and GIS departments with the aim of ensuring coordination and mutual representation of interests among the cantons. As part of the implementation of the Federal Geographic Information Act (GeoIG; SR 510.62) and the creation of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NGDI), the KKGEO is commissioned by the Conference of Construction, Planning and Environment Directors (BPUK) with the following main tasks, among other things:

  • Intercantonal coordination in geographic information
  • Harmonization and provision of geographic reference data
  • Collaboration in setting up the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NGDI)

The Swiss Construction, Planning and Environmental Directors 'Conference (BPUK), as the responsible directors' conference, assumes the leading role and political responsibility for the coordination of the cantons in the field of geoinformation. The tasks according to the performance mandate of the BPUK are specified in the annual action plan with actions categorized according to main task area. The Geoinformation Advisory Committee of the BPUK examines the performance mandate, the action plan and the other business of the KKGEO and makes recommendations for the attention of the BPUK.

Specialist groups

In the technical specialist groups (FG ESRI / IGArc, Intergraph, OpenSource) the KKGEO members exchange ideas on technical and organizational issues. You can act as a negotiating partner with the software providers to discuss licensing issues, technical issues or organizational challenges.

Contact persons and professional associations

In addition to the federal agencies (in particular Swisstopo and KOGIS), contact persons are project managers and working group leaders for intercantonal projects in the GIS area. The Swiss Organization for Geo-Information (SOGI) is also a specialist association.
