Denominational public service broadcasters (2.42-omroep) are broadcasters in the Netherlands that were put on a new legal basis with the media laws of 2008.

Regulations

Article 2.42 specifies the special status of "kerkgenootschappen en genootschappen op geestelijke grondslag" ( German  churches (also denominations) and communities on a spiritual basis ) broadcasters. In professional circles in the Netherlands, the term 2.42-omroep (German: broadcasting corporations according to §2.42 Media Act) has established itself.

Public broadcasters in the Netherlands are set up as foundations or associations. They carry out their work through the foundation's assets or through the contributions of the association members. Article 2.42 regulates the existence of broadcasters, even if they cannot raise the financial means themselves. The state then provides financial resources if these cannot be obtained through the association's contributions. The state has made this its task in order to have a plural media offer and to be able to give minorities a voice in public broadcasting. In total, the 2.42-omroepen can provide 351 hours of television and 1057 hours of radio broadcasts per year for public broadcasting in the Netherlands ( Nederlandse Publieke Omroep ). In the old media law, the stations were known as 39f-omroep .
