Konoba

A konoba ( Croatian for cellar) or the konobe are small restaurants that are mainly located on the Croatian Adriatic coast (especially in Dalmatia , on the Croatian islands , the Kvarner Bay , in the hinterland of the Lika ( Plitvice Lakes ) and on the peninsula Istria ).

A konoba usually has the following characteristics:

The konoba is relatively small compared to restaurants. A tavern offers simple dishes typical of the country. Fish dishes, meat dishes such as lamb and pork (including grilled dishes), sheep cheese, Dalmatian ham. White bread is always served. The selection of drinks is also typical of the country: mainly wine, but also beer, local spirits and non-alcoholic drinks.

The vast majority of the Konobe are in Dalmatia.
