Consistency (psychology)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In psychology, consistency denotes the consistency of a person's individual behavior in himself and in relation to his own self , which is essentially retained over time and across situations ( Fleeson & Noftle (2008)). This is a behavioral tendency and not a stable personality trait (Engl. Trait ) in the strict sense, since people while acting transsituativ (ie about different situations of time) in terms of their aggregate behavior in concrete, similar situations pretty consistent, but nevertheless specific situations behave differently ( Kenrick & Funder (1988), Mischel (1994)). The psychological test can thus determine the degree to which the behavior of the individual can be predicted (see prognosis ).
