Contact soup

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The feeding of a contact soup is called a medical method that was mainly used in piglet rearing . Here, the animals are fed with infectious agents (the contact soup ) in order to stimulate the pigs' immune system and promote the formation of antibodies .

The ingestion of infectious material should be a simple, cheap and efficient method, but is not recommended for all pathogens.

The use of contact soup was recommended by some consultants in the 1990s as a solution to infection problems , but today its use is viewed critically and no longer considered appropriate. Especially since nowadays the approach is more to avoid infections than to react to an existing one with countermeasures.
