Co-ordinating committee for police and judicial cooperation in criminal matters

The Coordinating Committee for Police and Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters , also known as CATS , is a working group of the Council of the EU under Article 71 TFEU . Until the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty , the committee was also called a committee under Article 36 of the EU Treaty ; the abbreviation CATS is derived from franz. " C omité de l ' a rticle t rente- s ix" and is to be retained after the Lisbon Treaty . Before the Amsterdam Treaty , the committee was also called the Article K8 Committee .

The committee, made up of senior officials, coordinates the working groups working in the field of police and judicial cooperation in criminal matters . He also prepares the work of the Permanent Representatives Committee in this area. Its counterpart for asylum and immigration issues is the SAEGA (Strategic Committee of the Council for Immigration, Border and Asylum Issues).
