Copy machine delivery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The copier levy (also copyright levy or operator levy for photocopiers ) is a flat fee for the use of copiers in Germany. This fee is regulated in Section 54c of the Copyright Act and is collected by the collecting society Wort based in Munich.

The amount of the fee is calculated from the speed and location of the respective copier. For a copy shop near the university, this tax is higher than for locations further away. Furthermore, the level of delivery of the photocopier depends on the speed of these machines, i.e. the faster, the higher the annual amounts.

The income from these annual taxes is made available to the authors and publishers (rights holders) as royalties and is intended to compensate for the lost proceeds from photocopying copyrighted works. The amount of the levy in 2008 was around 65 million euros.
