Crosspoint

A coupling point (engl .: cross point ) is in said telecommunications switching means in switching networks connecting the plurality of lines. These can be 2-wire or 4-wire lines (there and back). Switching matrices are central devices in switching systems . A coupling point consists of switching elements that can temporarily connect one, two or more lines via jointly connected electromechanical, electronic or optical contacts. Electromechanical and optical crosspoints can switch analog connection paths, electronic ones usually switch digital connection paths.

Crosspoints are used for switching fields in space division or time division multiplexing.
