Corona camera

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A partial discharge was recorded on a corona ring on a high-voltage line operated at 500 kV.

A corona camera provides corona discharges , which at high voltage can occur in a video image represents.

It is a special video camera that contains an additional UV- sensitive image sensor in order to capture the strong UV emissions of the discharges. This UV camera signal is electronically faded into the normal video signal so that the discharges can be seen in the image. The wavelengths of corona discharges are in the range from 230 to 450 nm. Filters that are permeable in the range of 240 to 280 nm allow work to be carried out in daylight, since the ozone layer filters out the UV light from the sun in this range.

Corona cameras can be used, for example, to check high-voltage lines.
