Korotschun (bread)

Korotschun refers to the bread prepared for the festival of the same name .

To bake the korochun, the housewife puts on a sheepskin coat and gloves (Ukraine), grains of various types of grain, garlic and some grass are placed in the middle of the bread, the whole thing is brushed with honey and symbolically tied with a linen or hemp thread so that everything is good stick together. In Slovakia, every member of the family receives a piece of the Korotschun, and the cattle are also given a piece to keep them healthy and fertile. The rest of the Korotschun is put in front of the door to protect the house from evil spirits.

In Ukraine, the future is interpreted according to the shape that the Korochun takes in the oven (similar to pouring lead on New Year's Eve). In other areas, the korochun is rolled across the floor. If it tips on top, it means failure in ranching or the death of a family member.
