Body (furniture)

Furniture body with continuous side parts and fixed partition

In furniture construction, a corpus describes the load-bearing parts without the substructure of a piece of furniture.

The body consists of the side parts, the upper and lower floor and the rear wall. In addition, fixed partitions, fixed shelves and front parts can belong to the body. If the side parts do not go through to the floor, it is supported by feet, a substructure consisting of a base, a frame or the like. Inside it is charging supplemented subjects or mostly adjustable shelves. If the body does not remain open as a shelf , it is closed on the front by fronts made of rotating or sliding doors, flaps or shutters.
