Kranichfeld (noble family)

The Lords of Kranichfeld were an old Thuringian dynasty, with the headquarters of the same name and the Kranichfeld castle on the Ilm.

history

The first mention of Kranichfeld took place in the middle of the 9th century, and the Lords of Kranichfeld, with Volrad von Kranichfeld († after 1157), in 1143. The Lords of Kranichfeld, like the Schwarzburger descended from the Counts of Kevernburg , were closely related to them and possessed. In 1172 the rule Kranichfeld was divided into the upper and lower rule. The Kranichfelder provided two bishops of Halberstadt, Meinhard (ruled 1241–1252) and Volrad (ruled 1254–1295) . The sex died out around 1380 in the male line . Their inheritance fell to the burgraves of Kirchberg . In the middle of the 15th century the castle and manor of Ober-Kranichfeld were sold to the Reuss family , where a daughter from the Kirchberg family had married. The sub-rule (Nieder-Kranichfeld), however, came to the Counts of Gleichen .

The talking coat of arms shows a silver crane in red with a silver horseshoe in its beak. On the helmet with red and silver covers the crowned shield figure. Another coat of arms shows a walking golden (resisting) crane in silver. On the helmet, with red and gold covers, the crane is covered with silver ribbons at an angle.

The coat of arms of Kranichfeld can be found from 1561 in the increased coat of arms of the principalities of Reuss .
