Hospital Infection Surveillance System

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hospital Infection Surveillance System - KISS for short - describes the systematic collection and recording of hygiene-related data in medical and nursing facilities of the German health system . KISS was developed in 1996 and has since been operated by the National Reference Center (NRZ) for the surveillance of nosocomial infections headed by Petra Gastmeier , which is located at the Institute for Hygiene and Environmental Medicine in the Charité in Berlin .

construction

KISS consists of several modules, each of which focuses on the hygiene situation in certain work areas for patient care:

  • ITS-KISS is the most widely used module and records infections in intensive care units .
  • Hand-KISS determines the consumption of hand disinfectants in inpatient and outpatient facilities. In addition, Hand-KISS can be used to read off the compliance of the nursing and medical staff with regard to hand hygiene measures. This module is also used by the Clean Hands campaign .
  • Ward-KISS records the infection of patients in inpatient facilities by nosocomial pathogens of all kinds, as well as their infestation by multi-resistant pathogens (MRE)
  • OP-KISS records wound infections in connection with surgical measures
  • Neo-KISS records the infections in neonatal intensive care units

history

In 1997 only 16 hospitals participated in KISS . The number of participating facilities rose to 139 by the year 2000. In the course of the regular recording of nosocomial infections required by the Infection Protection Act since 2001 , the number of participating hospitals and outpatient facilities in which operations are carried out increased significantly. In July 2014, a total of 1,482 hospitals had implemented one or more KISS modules and contributed data.

In the meantime, KISS has become one of the most complex and comprehensive recording systems in the hygienic area and provides a third of the data volume of pan-European statistics.
