Krause end piston

The Krause end piston , named after Wilhelm Krause (1833–1910), is a so-called mechanoreceptor that is located in the upper area of the dermis . It is a smaller variant of the Vater-Pacini corpuscle .

The Krause body has a spherical shape, whereby it consists of several layers, the outer layer with permeable chambers and the inner courtyard with the actual receptor. It is a rapidly adapting mechanoreceptor that reacts to changes in speed and, together with the Vater-Pacini corpuscle, is one of the acceleration sensors.
