Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Krause (born July 12, 1833 in Hanover , † February 4, 1910 in Charlottenburg ) was a German professor of anatomy .

Life

Wilhelm Krause, son of the anatomist and director of the Obermedizinalkollegium Karl Friedrich Theodor Krause in Hanover, began to study medicine in Göttingen in the summer semester of 1851. Here he joined the Hannovera fraternity . He continued his studies in Berlin, Prague, Vienna and Zurich; to the Dr. med. He received his doctorate in Göttingen in 1854.

He then worked for several years at hospitals in Hanover. In 1860 he received a teaching position for normal and pathological anatomy at the University of Göttingen and was appointed associate professor shortly afterwards. In 1883 he submitted his monograph “The Anatomy of the Rabbit” to the University of Leipzig and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. From 1865 to 1891 he was a member of the physical class of the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen as an assessor . From January 1892 he was appointed head of the laboratory and at the same time responsible for the custodian business of the Anatomical Institute of the University of Berlin .

Wilhelm Krause completed his habilitation in Berlin on May 31, 1892; then he was appointed full professor of anatomy. In 1897 he went on a study trip to Australia for anthropological studies.

He published his diverse research results in over 100 publications, some as monographs, some in medical journals. He dealt not only with anatomical problems, but also worked in other areas of medicine, for example in the area of ​​developmental history. He also carried out studies on animals. In 1860 he discovered the Kraus end bulb (cold receptors of the skin) named after him .

He published the three-volume manual of human anatomy that his father had begun in the 3rd edition from 1876 onwards. This work has also been translated into Hungarian and French. In 1899 his handbook of human anatomy appeared. Wilhelm Krause played a major role in standardizing the anatomical nomenclature .
