Krautkrapfen are spicy donuts made from pasta dough that are filled with sauerkraut and bacon . They are considered a Swabian and Allgäu specialty.

There are several types of preparation, with one type a dough made of flour , egg and water is rolled out very thinly. The filling of cabbage, bacon, onions and caraway seeds is spread out on the dough sheet after a short but vigorous frying . Then you roll the dough into a strudel and cut four to five centimeters long snail-shaped donuts. Then the donuts are arranged tightly in a pan and fried in a lot of lard and a little water.
