The Krefelder Familienhilfe eV is a non-profit welfare organization in Krefeld that has set itself the goal of fighting poverty and supporting people in their life situations.

1945 until today

Familienhilfe was founded on April 21, 1945, before the end of the Second World War, by the then mayor Johannes Stepkes . It was the first social work of the post-war period. Johannes Johansen , who was Lord Mayor of Krefeld from 1911 to 1930, took over the management . On May 1, 1945, 8 days before the end of the war, Familienhilfe carried out the first house collection. Up until the currency reform in 1948 , around 2 million Reichsmarks were donated to family aid.

In 1955, Familienhilfe opened the first holiday home in Germany to give older people a chance to relax. The club has had a senior citizens' club since November 1959, the first of its kind in Germany.

In April 2015, Familienhilfe celebrated its 70th anniversary. At the beginning of 2016, the Lord Mayor of Krefeld, Frank Meyer, presented the association with the award for "Civic Self-Help".

Familienhilfe offers Krefelders help through advice and discussions in different life situations, advice on patient decrees and power of attorney, financial support and donations in kind as well as food subsidies. A variety of offers for older people in the senior citizens' club.

The association is financed through donations, contributions and allocations and grants from the public sector.
