Circular eye decorations on a leg crest

A circular eye is a small circular ornament with a small central point. These decorations have been found on bone, wood, horn and, more rarely, metal objects since the Stone Age .

Circular eyes are made with a specially created drilling tool that mills the circle and the eye at the same time . The milled out contours were often filled with color pigments so that the decorations stand out better.

Circular eye decorations are particularly common on ceramics, leg combs and other everyday objects made of bone .
