The Kreiswerke Main-Kinzig GmbH are a regional power and water supply company based in Gelnhausen . In the old district of Gelnhausen and the surrounding communities, they supply around 100,000 people with energy and around 125,000 people with drinking water . Kreiswerke sell their electricity across Germany. The company's business areas also include public transport services .
Company history
The district of Gelnhausen built a group waterworks from 1912 to 1917 in the area of today's municipalities of Linsengericht, Freigericht and Hasselroth. The extraction facilities (sources Lützel) are located in the Linsengericht-Großenhausen district. Up to 1920, only 7 of 32 district communities were supplied with tap water. In the other municipalities in the district, water was drawn from public and private wells, the water quality of which in some cases did not meet the hygienic requirements.
In 1920, District Administrator Delius appointed Conrad Lohrey, the former head of the Gelnhausen district utilities, to the administration of the Gelnhausen district with the task of establishing a district-owned electricity company, which is now the Kreiswerke. In the following year the electricity office was built; most of the municipalities were connected to the supply network. In 1929/1930 a contract with the municipalities gave the Hanau district rights and obligations to supply drinking water. The district electricity office became the commercial operations of the district of Hanau. In 1937 the district's own small railways were merged as Gelnhauser Kreisbahnen under the umbrella of the Kreiswerke.
On April 1, 1955, the commercial operations of the Hanau district were renamed as Hanau district works. The power supply and the transport companies were merged in 1965 and continued under the name Kreiswerke Gelnhausen. The change from own operation to own company took place on January 1, 1970 with the founding of Kreiswerke Hanau GmbH. The founders were the district of Hanau, the city of Dörnigheim and the communities of Oberrodenbach and Wolfgang.
In 1980 the Gas and Water Supply Main-Kinzig GmbH was founded with 50% company shares by Kreiswerke Gelnhausen GmbH. On January 1, 1986, the water supply division was spun off from GWM, now Gasversorgung Main-Kinzig GmbH. This was followed by the purchase of the Biebergemünd-Breitenborn, Freigericht, Hasselroth, Linsengericht-Geislitz, Linsengericht-Waldrode water supply networks and the Lützel sources by Kreiswerke Hanau GmbH.
In 2000, the Bad Orb power supply became a wholly owned subsidiary. Kreiswerke supplied a total of 404 million kilowatt hours of electricity to their customers. In 2003, Energiedienst Main-Kinzig GmbH was founded. On January 1, 2005, the Linsengericht-Geislitz and Linsengericht-Waldrode water supply networks were sold to Stadtwerke Gelnhausen GmbH and the water supply in Maintal was reorganized. The water supply company and network owner is now Maintal-Werke GmbH (MWG). MWG commissioned Kreiswerke Hanau GmbH with the technical management of the network. In the same year, the motor transport division was outsourced to Bad Orb power supply, the power division was outsourced from Bad Orb power supply and incorporated into the Gelnhausen district, and the Bad Orb power supply was renamed Regionalverkehr Main-Kinzig GmbH.
On July 1, 2008, the Hanau district works were merged with the Gelnhausen district works to form the Main-Kinzig GmbH district works. On August 1, 2008, with the merger of the electricity supplier Kreiswerke Gelnhausen and the water supplier Kreiswerke Hanau, the joint supply company Kreiswerke Main-Kinzig GmbH with the energy and water divisions was created. The district works Main-Kinzig became one of the largest supply companies in the Main-Kinzig district . In 2009 the subsidiary supply service Main-Kinzig GmbH was founded.
