The cross anchor is a component of a bogie with radially adjustable axes. The cross anchors connect the two diagonally opposite axle box supports and ensure that the axles are always deflected in opposite directions. The cross anchor was invented by the German - South African railway engineer Herbert Scheffel and was first used in the Scheffel bogie , which was patented in 1975.
