Crossbar

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A crossbar (also called switch box , matrix switch , toggle switch , selector ; English selector , crossover switch or matrix switch ) is a control device for switching through various signal sources to one or more consumers, e.g. B. the connection of video and / or audio signals to certain receiving devices. Crossbars can be combined in such a way that the signal sources distributed to their inputs can be sent to several consumers at the same time. With video surveillance systems , for example, it is possible to display different camera positions in any sequence and duration at several control stations at the same time.

There are also data crossbars that can switch RS-422 signals. However, these crossbars can only switch one signal source to a consumer. Multiple distribution is not possible here.
