description
The memorial shows a kneeling young woman in a simple dress with her hair braided straight back. Leaning forward slightly, she supports her chin in her right hand, which is holding a cloth. The forearm - set up on the bent leg - reinforces the downward direction of her gaze to an imaginary point on the right in front of her. The wreath she is laying on her left seems meaningless to her. The contrast between the apparent bewilderment in deep sadness and the apparently unimportant official sign of solidarity - the wreath - can still shake the viewer today.
